The need for defragmentation is incorrectly documented and required even by several major distros.ģ) The recommended Knoppix 3.7 is really old. In the last 3.5 years basically all problems happened due to repartitioning (irrelevant to NTFS) and not due to NTFS resizing.Ģ) Defragmentation is not needed at all. Please let me make some notes because most partitioners mentioned here use ntfsresize internally which we developed and keep maintain actively (such partitioners are qtparted, gparted, Mandriva and SUSE own partitioners, IBM’s EVMS, etc).
